Default Mighty Mouse misbehavior > hardware or software?

Been using my MM for a month or so and twice lately it has forgotten it's
right button is a right-click button. All other features are fine. If I go to
the Preference Pane and then just shut it closed the button starts working.

Any idea if issue with MM or OS?

I think it has something to do with the MM driver software because I
have a similar problem. Whenever I set actions for Button 3 and Button 4
it works *while* System Preferences is open, but once I close system
preferences, it forgets what those buttons are for and does nothing.

Thanks for replying. I agree. In fact if it hadn't been so early in the
morning i wouldn't have written what I had. That is, sure, when something is
doing something and that something is changed when software is called, then
it's almost always software. No real answer but i am relieved i don't have to
deal with return/exchange.

Other than the 10.4.8 update, yes.

I was referring to Apple Mouse Software, but I now realize I didn't
download it from Apple, but rather from abma...

Make sure all the drivers are up to date. Also, play around with the
plist files in your home directory (~/Library/Prefrences) and see if
there are any mighty mouse or mouse related plist files. Try and delete
the files and log out an log back in and see if that works. Also do the
same in the system library (/Library/Prefrences) Finally, delete all
the caches in (/Library/Caches) and (~/Library/Caches).

Try it out, tell me if it works.
