Default Compuware TestPartner and other test tools

I'm focusing on the direction in which I want to improve our QA process for
the In house development department where I work. We are a small, but eager
to work smarter. At the moment all I do is full manual testing and not
everything is documented fully, I want to push toward an integrated test
environment and a test management tool. Visual Studio Team System has
offered a lot this so far. However, out-of-the-box it is limited as we do
windows applications. I can see how introducing automation in smoke testing
will improve our QA processes by far.

In the near future, we will be using Visual Studio Team System, and I'm
currently trialing TestComplete4 integration. I am really pleased with the
results so far and it has met most of my criteria.

Ultimately I am looking at a tool that will integrate with VSTS and offer a
integrated test enviroment in the long run. Justifying my vision to my boss
is yet another challange, but I'm so sold by the idea now, I'm sure I can
convince him it is for the better.

As well as opting for TestComplete as a chosen viability, I would also like
to look at TestPartner and DevPartner, and the sales at Compuware have
suggested an integrated suite. My perception so far is that this is
overkill for my requirements at the moment, so I'm rather put of by going
for this. I want to start thinking small and work things gradually. I've
been offered a 14-day trial and I intend to take up there offer. However, I
have no previous experience of using test suites. Can anyone offer any
feedback on my approach or give me any tips for using either TestComplete 4
or TestPartner. If you think neither of the two are good for their worth,
then please suggest alternatives you could recommend.
